A key tag is a useful addition if you like having a physical key and is a good back-up plan if you don't have your smartphone with you or if your smartphone doesn't support UWB (Ultra Wide Band).
It is easy to take with you to sports activities as it takes up minimal space and is lightweight. It has a bracket for a small keyring with a cord key loop. A key tag is a closed unit with a rechargeable battery and has no detachable key blade or buttons. This means the key tag has an IP67 rating, and so it is dust-resistant and waterproof up to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes.
The Volvo EX90 and key tag are equipped with UWB sensors that recognize when the driver is approaching the vehicle with his or her smartphone or key tag from around 10 meters away. The driver simply has to open the door, sit in the driver's seat, select a gear and drive away. The key tag can even stay in the driver's pocket the whole time. To lock the car, the driver simply needs to close the door and walk away.
The key tag is easy to charge wirelessly and automatically in the designated space in the center console. If, however, the key tag does run out of charge, NFC (Near Field Communication) technology is used to enable the vehicle to be unlocked and locked by blipping the key tag against the door handle. When the key tag is placed on charge in the center console, the vehicle can also be started.
