A Deep Dive on The Volvo Digital Rearview Mirror
The digital rearview mirror is a rear-vision system that uses a rearward-facing camera to capture video that is linked to an integrated mirror display, providing the driver with an unobstructed, wide-view image behind the vehicle showing three times more. Mirror area is 9.6in with a display resolution of 1600 x 320, 170ppi. Frames per second for the video display are 60FPS during daylight, and 30 at nighttime, providing crystal clear picture quality. All controls are discretely integrated into the rearview mirror, which has two modes. In mirror mode, the product functions as a standard auto-dimming rearview mirror. With the simple switch of a lever, the mirror enters camera mode, and a clear, bright video image appears through the mirror’s reflective surface, providing a wide, unobstructed rearward view. Video brightness control, and adjustment of the vertical view can be adjusted with controls on the mirror. The camera shows three times more area behind the vehicle than a traditional rearview mirror and makes it possible to see even if visibility is obstructed by passengers in the rear seats or luggage in the cargo area. The frameless rearview mirror has an elegant and modern design that is equipped with the wireless HomeLink® system*. HomeLink® enables control of multiple remote home devices, for example, the ability to open and close the garage door or to switch the house alarm system on and off.
*If the vehicle comes equipped with a standard HomeLink® Mirror from factory, installation of the Digital Rear View Mirror kit is all that is required. Should the vehicle be Installed with a standard mirror from factory, additional software is required during installation.
